Transport and Logistics Work Based Experience

The Transport and Logistics Project is a joint project between SSAI (The SWISS SOTH AFRICAN CORPORATION INTIATIVE) and TETA (Transport Education and Training Authority) to implement Workplace Based Experience (WBE) in the NCV Transport and Logistics programme. The project aims at including workplace component into the theoretical programme hence bringing the “missing” practical element into the current theoretical offering. The excursion focuses on both Level 4 students and their lecturers by providing opportunities for students and lecturers to experience the real world of work within the transport sector.  The value of the project is to improve teaching and learning within the transport and logistics programme.
Project Objectives:

  • Workplace Based Experience (WBE) for TVET College students in the NCV programme, Transport and Logistics;
  • Excursion  to Transport and Industry Business ( exposure to air/ rail/sea/land) over 5 days;
  • Enhancing classroom content through including: case studies, documents, examples of work standard, best practices, etc. from the workplace.
  • Work Integrated Learning for college lecturers (WILL) as part of their Continuous Professional Development  (CPD)

In addition to the provision of qualifications, the purpose of TVET Colleges is to prepare students for the world of work by providing practical skills with experience/exposure to the business and industry that makes them work ready. The project aims to address gaps on WILL in the current programme.
The five days education excursion in Durban involved visits to the Harbour, Airport, freight and passenger Rail study tour, road freight study tour, bus tour of (travel and tourism) and study tour of warehouses and distribution centres.
